Don't California My Virginia Flag Shirt
Don't California My Virginia Flag Shirt! Brief fashion history brief. In 1972, Patrizia Reggiani, an Italian socialite, married Maurizio Gucci - the 20th grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci. Over the next 15 years, the couple had two daughters; fought (and won) a climactic battle for control of the Gucci brand; and became a fixture in the Italian tabloids, which featured numerous photographs of Reggiani in dark sunglasses and elaborate jewelry, looking like a Milanese Elizabeth Taylor. Lady Gucci, as the press called her, became known for her extravagance — sailing between the private Caribbean islands aboard her 200-foot yacht, Creole, or down to her penthouse in Olympic Tower in Manhattan whenever the mood is up. At her richest time, she is said to have spent thousands of dollars a month on orchids. Perhaps her most famous diktat? "I'd rather cry on a Rolls-Royce than be happy on a bicycle." Then, in the mid-80s, Maurizio announced that he was on a short business trip to Florence - only to find out that Reggiani had permanently abandoned his family for his younger lover. (She then claims that the Guccis doctor had to tell her.) An even worse betrayal, in Reggiani's eyes? A few years after the couple split,
as inspiration for the film.
