Sitting in a rowdy booth at Cafe Paulette in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Alexander-Julian Gibbson - travel editor, stylist, and self-proclaimed enjoyment master - showed me his latest project. In a series of photos titled The Land of Milk and Honey, he captures the daily lives of 11 multicultural families in about 100 photos; fashion connections with diverse immigrant communities across the United States. From Little Haiti in Miami to Daly City, California, Gibbson - a Houston native of Nigeria - has met, styled, and dressed designers from similar cultures, showcasing the diversity of American life through the lens of high-class style. The task is no small feat - pairing people with photographers and designers requires a lot of planning and research - but in the end, the matches he makes feel authentic. Every family is delighted to know that their clothing is sourced from brands and designers that share their roots.
