Directed by Matthew Placek, with subjects including Marina Abramovic, Julian Schnabel, and Philip Johnson's Glass House, the film finds Rucci discussing topics that continue to resonate with him, including the shaping process. and his skeleton shape, and his haute couture philosophy. Rucci's customers know what to expect when they come to him - his impeccable taste, diverse color palette, beautiful silhouette, and legendary craftsmanship. And so this season, when circumstances didn't allow him to produce a full and extremely expensive couture collection, he instead set up his welcome salon in a suite at the Ritz, instead, complete with panels featuring sketches of the show. Alongside Rucci's craftsman-friendly drawings of each proposal are artist Bil Donovan's more dramatic and gestural watercolors, illustrating the collection he envisions for Fall 2021.
Fabric and embroidery samples completed the paintings-Rucci's suppliers included embroiderer Jean-Pierre Ollier- "I feel he chose the reins of Monsieur Lesage," double-sided wool from Raphael, and silk from Taroni. The work pays a subtle homage to the fashion masters Rucci revered - Cristobal Balenciaga, Charles James, and Madame Grès among them - but his aesthetic was unique to his own and he always pursued an independent thinking path and The Zero Fox Given Funny Idgaf Foxes Pun T-shirt! All the hallmarks of Rucci are here - linen jackets with ribbed seams and jackets that skim the waist and voluptuous bust - contouring the body with fabric tubes. laid on tulle in an incredible tour of meticulous craftsmanship.
