I Love Mav Shirt! I found the first month or so after joining a really stressful time. Everyone wants to know where, how, and when you will get married and I have no clue. I've definitely thought about what I don't want my wedding to be like, I just haven't thought far into what I want it to be like. Thankfully, we planned a two-week trip to the Greek island of Andros, where we could get away from outside questions and pressure (“You need to book bands and photographers in advance). at least a year, FYI only”), for some happy solitude and feta abundance. During those two weeks, we took off our hats in front of the island. I've loved Greece for a long time, but Andros feels more special. Its soothing charm, unpretentious beach club (not a white daybed in sight), superb hospitality, and azure cove had us enthralled. While sipping local wine at the small guesthouse we were staying outside of Chora.
I innocently asked the owner Nelly if she'd ever had a wedding there. “No… but I know exactly how we can do it,” she replied with a twinkle in her eye. And so it happened: a year later, close to the date, Ruaraidh and I held our wedding in Andros, introducing over 100 of our friends and family to one of our favorite locations. I Love Mav Shirt! My family never went on a Mediterranean vacation while growing up (my dad is a farmer, so summers are spent in Wales) and I love the idea of our whole family being on an island in Greece before the big day. In fact, many of our guests have turned it into a longer trip, spending time in Athens or on other islands before or after the wedding. That meant our family and friends had to know each other by the time the big day arrived. There is nothing better than when two friends who have never met talk passionately about each other. One of my favorite parts of the whole week is catching up with friends for coffee or ice cream in a small town, which is so whimsical and very special.
