Nice trump Calls Me American Biden Calls Me Breakfast Taco T-shirt! In the summer of 1989, Collier Schorr went to southern Germany for the first time. A native of Queens who spent her 20s studying at the School of Visual Arts and circling the quirky clubs of a lawless East Village, it was Schorr's discovery of Schwäbisch Gmünd, a city small half an hour west of Stuttgart, was a revelation. Her former partner's hometown offers a warm, peaceful life, feeling a world away from the hustle and bustle of her artist life in Manhattan. She would visit every summer for almost 20 years, documenting her travels in a work-in-progress series, Forests and Fields, the first two volumes of which 2006's Neighbors Beneath the Hills shepherd hills and the fresh-faced young men Schorr has captured on the surface, there are deeper, more complex reasons for her fascination with the area, largely stemming from her Jewish identity, her own weirdness.
