Official peace On Earth Skull T-shirt! I wanted to foreshadow her work, instead of reducing her to a death she didn't choose. I know I want to focus on her work and try to figure out how to do that in an audio format where we can't look at the picture. I think the question that I really want to ask is whether the art world is ready to have a real conversation about the nature and ethics of what we do with art by people who have done terrible things. the horror created or not. I don't think I've proposed myself as neutral, but I have tried to present myself as a barrier to the story, and part of that means being measured while also Being honest about your doubts, so to speak. 
I think what has guided me more than anything else is a podcast called Anything for Selena, by Maria Garcia. Garcia, herself a young Chicana from Texas, fell in love with Selena, and they really came up with a story from the point of view of a fan. Garcia has never shied away from admitting it and writing from that position, but she really goes into why Selena is so important; it's really authentic, vulnerable, and personal. Well, I just think Mendieta created this truly extraordinary piece of work that was created in a time when we don't have the kind of language we have now about #MeToo and Indigeneity, colonialism, ecological feminism, Official peace On Earth Skull T-shirt! so I hope that people will use it as an opportunity to look back at that work. It's the kind of podcast that hopes to help people think more broadly about the ethics of a culture.
