The UFO Ew People Keep Going Shirt! It is almost impossible to talk about Winnipeg, Manitoba without talking about its complexity. When I first moved here, by their choice, in 2008, people always asked me, Why? Why would you do such a thing? Why did you move here? Over the next few years, I'm happy to try to answer this question on my blog, along with two other close friends who decided to give Winnipeg a try. We wrote about interesting local expressions, pronunciations, and practices. We've compared the systems here with those we're used to in places where we've lived before. That first summer, we were even invited by a local radio station to identify the best restaurant patios in the city and do studio reports on our research. We mainly blog for ourselves, and for us, the interesting thing is that our works are so novel and unexpected that anyone else would be interested. After a few years, my unbridled enthusiasm for Winnipeg has certainly waned for a variety of reasons.

Meeting others who want a better city is both a blessing and a curse: the feeling of finding your people, but also so much discussion about how our city made them We are not satisfied. And so, when I walked into a spring market a few months ago and saw a T-shirt that said I DO NOT love Winnipeg, I knew I had to have it The UFO Ew People Keep Going Shirt! But it's funny, over the past few years I've noticed it seems more and more local companies are making Winnipeg-themed costumes. And what's interesting is that this is not a tourist commodity. It is made for the locals. Some designs are, well, design. They are more subtle: an interesting graphic at first, with an additional layer of meaning created by place names or their denotation, like a map outline. I'm not at all a style arbitrator, but I think most would agree, they're pretty cool.It was a kind of shibboleth; an owned test that you only pass with insider knowledge. And in Manitoba, it's not just the thriving metropolis of Winnipeg that seems to be enjoying a moment of pride. I love reading the story of Towns Apparel Co., whose place is nowhere too small to brag about. Two friends from a small town in Manitoba started making T-shirts and sweatshirts with simple maps and coordinates for places that would probably never have their own travel boards. If you're proud of your hometown, we want to help you show that pride, said co-founder Brooks Keen. I was excited but curious about this little outburst and The UFO Ew People Keep Going Shirt! What's behind the success of these location-based clothing businesses? Especially in a city where residents are absolutely enamored with the tagline underneath the Now Entering Winnipeg sign on The Simpsons: We were born here. What's your plea? It seems to me that even in places where there is no deep guilt, people don't really shy away from wearing clothing that advertises where they live, with the notable exception of a shirt.
