The first time Erik Allen Ford, founder of clothing brand Buck Mason, tried on one of its t-shirts, it fit so well he thought the shirt had been flipped upside down. It was humbling, 40-year-old Ford said of trying on that first t-shirt, which was made in Los Angeles using cotton grown in the United States. He added that it was the start of 50 repetitions. I slept in the sample room for a week. That was in 2013, not long after Ford and Sasha Koehn, another founder, founded the label in Los Angeles with a lofty goal: to create a high-end t-shirt, an emerging apparel category. in the 19th century and has been tried by countless brands. to refine since then. The founders of Buck Mason had very little experience in clothing design, other than some of the styling classes Ford took. Previously, he worked in sales and management for a few small clothing brands. Koehn, 41, worked in communications and before that as a landscape architect. Now, Buck Mason sells nearly a dozen different short-sleeve T-shirts, starting at $45. Over the past decade, the brand has also begun selling other basic items like jeans, sweatshirts, and button-down shirts on its website and in the 24 stores it has opened in the United States. However, T-shirts still make up a significant portion of its business, accounting for about 30% of total sales, Ford said. Koehn calls T-shirts the gateway to the brand. They have been featured by Vogue, New York magazine, and Wirecutter, a product recommendation service of The New York Times.
