Pearl Jam North America World Tour 2024 Retro Shirt, hoodie, tank top, longsleeve
For two days in May, Cindy, Christy, Linda and Naomi can be found at a photo studio in West Manhattan doing supermodel-like work with humor and ruthless precision. They don’t hesitate to wear massive shoulder pads, pale mini-suits, tight ties and pointy stilettos that have nothing to do with the cozy jeans and cashmere sweaters they arrive and they smiled familiarly at the shelves of this season’s most important outfits, looking no different from the designer products they wore more than 30 years ago. They were really just kids back then, and clothes meant nothing; now they are in their 50s and so on. Even the trendiest jeans, the most upbeat look and a super hot Matthieu Blazy tank top for Bottega Veneta are paradoxically made of leather. These are Supers and they can take on any look, singing along to the early Madonna and Lauper soundtracks, capturing light to create shapes that don’t really match their actual bodies, while delicately coaching youth, rising star photographer Rafael Pavarotti on how best to capture the movement of clothing. Between times they check the screen; are bossy ladies, they offer corrections. Naomi never gave up on high heels, even when her co-stars were barefoot. It’s a master class on commits. But how strange it is to be in a retro-future version of your own life! And it’s even weirder that you’ve spent your life being beautiful when you’re naturally beautiful, by any measure. When Edward Enninful, who had known them all for decades, gracefully referred to an episode of 30 Rock in which Tina Fey’s character dates a man so handsome that he unwittingly living in a bubble of special treatment and privilege, it was Cindy, whose, quite literally, her trademark beauty, who smiled first in understanding.
Oh, but that bubble was intoxicating. How it exploded and why it continues to fascinate the globe more than three decades later is now the subject of a four-part documentary titled The Super Models, set to premiere September 20 on Apple. TV +. Directed by Roger Ross Williams and Larissa Bills for Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment, this series paints a broad and sophisticated picture of the style community in the late 80s to mid 90s, as high fashion moves from an aspirational clothing niche to a mainstay of mainstream entertainment alongside movies, television and music. With my signature foresight, I think I’ve just stumbled upon the fact that this is a cultural moment that has become particularly important, says Grazer. At the center of this transformation are Christy, Naomi, Cindy and Linda, four teenagers and barely a teenager with a rare combination of extremely photogenic features, innate confidence, intelligence. Quick wits, intuitive style, intense curiosity and a completely banana work ethic. flip the switch for industry. And the lights never go out. In addition to this four-star-produced series, more documentaries are in the works, and Linda and Steven Meisel will have a book on their official collaboration with Phaidon next month. The famous Supers outfits on the red carpet are now worn by Gen Z stars; their faces looking down from Fendi’s Kim Jones billboard: Put them in a campaign and they’ll make a sale. They are still compelling compelling.
