Nice I’m A Registered Nurse I Don’t Stop When I Am Tired I Stop When I’m Done Shirt! I think the story of Shamony and Amber is symbolic of who the Black women who die of these complications are. There have been several stories about Black women and why they died. Often the story is her fault: She is poor. She doesn't take care of herself. She is overweight. What's really important for storytelling purposes is that when we meet Shamony and Amber through their families, it's clear that they both died of preventable causes. Shamony suffered a pulmonary embolism; Amber has a developed health syndrome. Both are very excited about being a mother and Shamony is already a mother. They have great associates who are always supportive. They should not be in a situation where they have passed away. They had great family support, and they were educated, women. This is the problem of the maternal mortality crisis and black women dying: It crosses socioeconomic boundaries. And these women were loved. Their families became activated by their love for the women they lost and their love for their community. They really are the perfect people for us to follow and collaborate with.
To be with Shamony and Amber's family with Shawnee, Omari, and Bruce and witness how they turn their pain into strength is inescapable for inspiration, motivation, and hope. Followed them over the course of two years and met them when they were deeply grieving, met Shawnee and Omari two months after Shamony passed away, and met with Bruce a few weeks after Amber passed away to see the amount of work that went on. Nice I’m A Registered Nurse I Don’t Stop When I Am Tired I Stop When I’m Done Shirt! Their accomplishments as well as their contribution to the birth-justice movement were breathtaking. I mean, Omari created a brotherhood of fathers with his artwork: He paints [portraits] pictures of women who have passed away and gives great solace. to other fathers in his place. Bruce is in the process of building a birthing center in the Bronx; he just helped launch Womb Bus, a mobile medical space that can provide care to women; he's going to the White House. Shawnee has worked for decades and continues to be everywhere at once and all things to all people. When you have the main characters and the most inspiring people, it's an incredible journey to be a filmmaker.
