The Transgender Witch Pride T-shirt! I learned that school spirit doesn't necessarily come from the shirt but from the attitude. I found this mental attitude in the volleyball team where I always said “You have a name on your chest; Wear it with pride! I see the school spirit in the girls at lunch when they greet me daily and then on Fridays when they wish me a good weekend. I return the affection because that's all it takes to be a Yellow Jacket. I see the school spirit when our school's Instagram posts are shared, liked, and loved in this community. I see the school spirit in my friends as they help foster Coat Pride in middle and elementary school students. I witnessed the best of this senior because we knew that this school was big enough for all of us and that it would get better when we all came together. I see this spirit at sporting events when teachers, families, and the Jacket Team come together to cheer for victory.
I have two Fridays left at Sidney High School. Although my favorite Sidney cheerleader shirt from second grade is no longer an option, you can bet you'll see me in black and yellow. In fact, I wear a volleyball jersey and a Jacket Pack all week. Although I will have a new school to represent in the fall when I go to the University of Miami, I will take the lessons learned in Sidney with me. I may be wearing a new shirt, but I will always have my black and yellow spirit and The Transgender Witch Pride T-shirt! I know exactly how lucky I am to have grown up in the Yellow Jacket. Shelbie Miller is a senior at Sidney High School. She is the daughter of Fran and Chad Miller. In the fall, she will attend the University of Miami to study Communication Design with hopes of working in marketing and branding. She is class president and has participated in Student Council, volleyball, Eco Green Club, and National Honor Society, and is a close friend of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. You can see her wearing a yellow jacket at sporting events or visiting cafes with her friends.
